Peer-to-Peer Financial Systems Conference Announced by Bank of Italy, UCL CBT, and the DLT Science Foundation

ROME — September 12, 2023

Today, the Bank of Italy, the University College London Centre for Blockchain Technologies (UCL CBT), and the DLT Science Foundation (DSF) announced the return of the Peer-to-Peer Financial Systems Workshop (P2PFISY). The workshop is an annual summit for academics, central bankers, regulators, legislators, and practitioners to engage in conversations on the latest developments in peer-to-peer (P2P) finance.

The Italian central bank, university centre and global blockchain nonprofit collaborate to host the ninth edition of the international workshop.

The two-day event will take place at the headquarters of the Bank of Italy in Rome. The workshop features keynotes from prominent international thought leaders, followed by workshops and panel discussions.

Speakers include:

  • Piero Cipollone, Deputy Governor, Bank of Italy
  • Sandra Ro, CEO of the Global Blockchain Business Council
  • Dr. Paolo Tasca, chairman of P2PFISY and founder of both the DLT Science Foundation and the UK Centre for Blockchain Technologies (UK CBT), professor at the University College of London
  • Marcello Miccoli, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Monetary and Capital Markets

The full programme can be viewed on the conference website here.

“Having led this conference since 2015, I am encouraged by the Bank of Italy’s steadfast support of new technologies, including peer-to-peer systems like blockchain. Their future-focused approach is reflected in their hosting of this event as well as the participation of their senior leadership,” said Dr. Paolo Tasca, co-founder of the DLT Science Foundation and chairman of P2PFISY. “Joining us are ecosystem pioneers like Hedera Hashgraph and Ripple, as well as leading web3 researchers from renowned universities and nonprofit organisations, each of whom has been selected for their contributions to peer-to-peer finance. We expect this workshop edition, just as in previous years, to catalyse new partnerships and discussions around adopting blockchain and other technologies.”

The workshop’s programme emphasises the evolving landscape of decentralised emerging digital technologies and their implications for instant payments, open finance, sustainable finance, and integration of ESG. P2PFISY’s 2023 edition will discuss the challenges and opportunities posed by the rapid digitalisation of financial services, including obstacles to adoption, ethical use, universal access, and more. Additionally, the workshop will examine the increasing importance of sustainable finance, the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors in investment decisions, and the role of decentralised technologies in promoting financial stability and inclusion.

The invitation-only conference will be live streaming the entirety of its programming on the P2PFISY website, and the leadership of the DLT Science Foundation will collaborate with the Bank of Italy to issue a summary of the conference proceedings in early October.
